For more than one year now Hari Krishna Dahal has been leading the operative agenda's of CDN in Nepal. We would like to thank Mr. Dahal for his efforts to cover up for the absence of Inge Patsch and Saroj Bastola. We do recognize that Mr. Dahal being the main resource person for counseling and workshops did not have sufficient time capacities to guide all our 6 permanent staffs in a way which would bring out their full potential.

In a board meeting on September 14th our board (Hari, Saroj and Inge) therefore decided, that it is time to distribute the leadership more equally among all three of them again. With effect from October 1st a new organizational structure will therefore be in place.

While the board meeting will continue to meet once a month and decide upon the strategic direction of the organization, operational leadership will be given to all three board members.

Hari will take care of the counseling department. The department will be responsible for developing counseling material, conducting counseling and workshop and train career helpers on our tools. As we saw a lot of potential in Shrijana giving direction and advice to youth she will join Hari in his department from October 1st onwards.

Saroj will lead the administrative department and Sales & Marketing Department which will take care of all financial agendas, billing, reporting, proposal, HR and website and coordinate the development of new information material, articles and the whole social media communication.

Inge will take care of the technical team, which will maintain the website, our job and educational database, our web-shop and the assessment and develop new functions which can help our partners to use our services even more efficiently. She will supervise our team from Austria and coordinate furthermore with Patrick Menke, who relentlessly is providing us with top-class software to reach our target.

She furthermore will act as a first contact to all European partners and clients so that they have a German speaking first contact.

We hope that with that new structure, we can serve all our partners better and be able to get the best out of our motivated team in Nepal.

I have a college degree but I cannot find any job in my field?

“I have a college degree but I am not able to find any job in my field of Study.” – Frequent statement with series of questionnaire follows our Social media page every week. This is a common problem most of our youths facing today. While education in Nepal greatly improved, number of educated person in the graph has rocketed in short period of time although the education system in Nepal is one of the youngest in the world.

In recent years number of students appearing higher education has simultaneously increased. As we are working closely with youths, our findings and our work indeed is essential to set career goals of youths of Nepal. Problem finding the jobs after completion of college degree in relation to developed world is higher. There might be different external causes in the context of developed world but in the case of Nepal we figured out few points to be noted.

  • The term “Career Counseling” is referred to “Abroad studies” rather than setting a individual’s career goal
  • No relevant information available on educational possibilities
  • Most of the youths do not have clear idea choosing specific subject in their higher education
  • There is no clear information on connection of your education and profession
  • Competence level of Nepali students seems low in relation to international students
  • Most of the educational institution prefer to give theoretical knowledge (no- practical knowledge)
  • Vocational education possibilities is available in Nepal but has never got any higher chance to be a interesting part of educational system
  • etc

After the successful completion of 2 batches in FWHC, on 1st of September 2018, we conducted career orientation program for 15 new young students residing in the Forum for the Welfare Himalayan Children (FWHC).

The aim of the career orientation was to help yet another group of students to know about the future career prospects in Nepal along with the things that determine the right career, and the importance of picking interest based career and education for a successful career.

The interactive program run by our career counselor, Hari Krishna Dahal, initiated with a related motivational story about recognizing one’s path for their career, following up with different career orientation models. He also expanded by informing students about the general mistakes one makes while deciding the education and career. And, also provides the structure to avoid such mistakes.

The students were vocal about the fact they had never thought their career that way before. According to them, the ‘eye- opening’ career orientation will help them to think twice before jumping to any education or career.

The career orientation is the 1st program this year for the new batch of students studying in 9 and 10 grades. It will be followed by 12 intensive sessions where the youths will be aware of their interests, personality, values, and their competences.
