How to get an internship?

The first step in answering the question “How do I find an internship?” is asking “What do I want to do?” Start looking at industries that you’re interested in and get a feel for what they’re looking for. At first, it may appear as if there are only two possibilities. On the one hand, there are typical academic careers and on the other hand, there is a huge job market for non-academic jobs. People on the job market often find themselves considering a wide range of different job options. And it may turn out to be more appealing than at first. The main point is to know what you want. Do you want money? Is that what a good job means to you? Or do you want prestige? Or would you settle for little pay as long as you have the passion for what you do? Our best advice to job seekers looking outside academia is to believe that you have something valuable to offer. The one common thread that we all touched on was the importance of seeing oneself as an asset to others. Unfortunately, we often sense that seeking non-academic employment is equated with failure.  Evidently, job seekers look for non-academic jobs because they can’t find other work - this sort of attitude easily undermines one’s performance in the job interview. After all, who would want to hire a failure? Clearly, this problem requires more than a dose of positive self-esteem or a newfound belief in the dignity of all work.

Non-academic skills

More and more evidence reflects the need to allow students to develop as people and not just as students. It’s time to think beyond the emphasis on academics and give importance to teaching/learning other stuff for success and independent living. We have come to recognize this “stuff” as non-academic skills. It’s important for example to know how to navigate through technology to find a quick fix for something that may be needed. These so called 21st Century Skills are making you independent. Also working on your grit is needed. When the going gets tough, the tough get going is a difficult lesson. Often, it leaves us adults wanting to hide under the blankets! Having the courage and determination to resolve an obstacle or finish something that was once started is a key indication of one’s grit. You should allow yourself also to create Growth in your Mindset. When you practice anything over and over again, positive results are bound to come around. Taking up a Hobby with enough persistent effort can grow a talent from the ground up, and this is an invaluable life skill that can be applied to just about every challenge you may face. And having good Soft Skills like good manners and punctuality are always helpful in jobs.

So all in all, everybody is thinking hard about what would be a satisfactory job or career, and then have to be prepared to work hard to find employment that meets their own personal goals. शैक्षिक योग्यता बाहेकका पेशाहरुको खोजिमा रहनुभएकाहरुलाई यस्ता पेशाहरुको महत्वको बारेमा हामी विश्वस्त गराउन चाहन्छौं |  सामान्यतया, तपाई जुन पेशामा आवद्ध भए पनि तपाईको भूमिका सम्बन्धित संस्था वा  कम्पनिको लागि महत्वपूर्ण रहन्छ |  दुर्भाग्यवश, प्राय मानिसहरुमा शैक्षिक योग्यता बाहेकका पेशाहरु गर्ने व्यक्तिलाई असफल रहेको महसुस गर्दछन् | प्राय त शैक्षिक योग्यता अनुसारको उपयुक्त पेशाहरुको अपर्याप्तता कारणले गर्दा पनि शैक्षिक योग्यता बाहेकका पेशाहरुको खोजीमा रहेको पाइन्छ | यद्यपि, यस्ता कुराहरुले उनीहरुलाई कमजोर पार्दछ | यस्तो समस्याको समाधानको उपाय भनेको सबै पेशाहरुलाई सकारात्मक सम्मान दिनु नै हो |

गैर-शैक्षिक शिपहरु

विविध घटना क्रमलाई मध्यनजर गर्दा विद्यार्थीलाई विद्यार्थीको रुपमा मात्र विकास नगरेर पूर्ण मानिसको रुपमा विकास गर्नु आवश्यक हुन्छ |  यो समय भनेको शैक्षिक कुराहरु पढाई/सिकाइलाई मात्र सिमित  नगरेर सफल व्यक्तिगत जीवन जिउनको लागि आवश्यक पर्ने अन्य शिपहरुलाई महत्व दिनुपर्ने कुराको बारेमा सोच्नुपर्ने वेला आएको छ | हामीले यस्ता सिपहरु गैर-शैक्षिक शिपहरुमा पाएका छौ | उदाहरणको लागि हामीले दैनिकी रुपमा प्रयोग गरिने प्रविधिहरुमा आउने समस्याहरुको समाधान कसरि गर्ने भनि थाहा पाउन आवश्यक छ |  यसर्थमा २१औ शताब्दीको अर्थ तपाईलाई शिपहरु सिकाइ परनिर्भर बनाउनु हो | साथै आफुमा भएको क्षमतामा काम गर्नु पनि आवश्यक छ | जव अबस्था जटिल हुन्छ क्षमतावानहरुले मात्र त्यो जटिलताको सामना गर्न सक्छ | अर्थात जो क्षमतावान हुन्छ उसले मात्र अवसरहरु हासिल गर्दछ यो एउटा कठिन पाठ हो | यसले गर्दा प्राय युवाहरु असफल हुने डरले आफुमा भएका क्षमताहरुपनि लुकाउने गरेको पाइन्छ | आफुले सुरु गरेको कुराको समापन गर्न साहष र निरन्तर लगाव राख्नु भनेको एक व्यक्तिले आफ्नो क्षमतामा काम गरेको छ भन्ने प्रमुख आधार हो | तपाई जुनकुनै कुरामा सफल हुनको लागि निरन्तर अभ्यासरत हुनुभयो भने सकारात्मक परिणामनै आउनेछ जुन कुरा तपाईले आफ्नो मानसिकतामा विकास गर्नु पर्दछ | आफुमा भएको इच्छालाई अघि लगाई लगातार मेहनत गर्नुहोस् जसले गर्दा तपाईलाई सो विषयमा पोख्त बनाउँछ | र यो नै तपाईको जीवनमा आई पर्ने समस्याहरु संग सामना गर्न हिम्मत दिने जीवनको अमुल्य शिप हो | असल बानि व्यवहार, समयनिष्ठ्ता जस्ता कुशलताहरु जुनसुकै पेशामा आवद्ध हुनको लागि उपयोगी हुन्छ |

The official language of Nepal is Nepali. According to the National Census of 2011, there are 123 different Nepalese languages spoken as mother tongues (first language) in Nepal. Lots of people, whose mother tongue is different from their country’s official language, find it as a barrier to learn the official language in school. And then there is a whole different challenge, speaking English. Most of the schools are teaching more subjects in English than improving the skills and knowledge of the official language Nepali itself. We would like to take up this issue as an essential basis to talk about the gap between focusing on the international language English than investing in learning a higher level in the mother tongue or the official language.

Advantages of being educated in the official language

Children who are taught only in one’s mother tongue can miss big opportunities for their future. People who cannot speak a country’s dominant language often have restricted opportunities for employment and social mobility. Literature, Movies, Media – the access to information and entertainment is limited. It has also been shown that skills and concepts taught in the learners’ mother tongue do not have to be re-taught when they transfer to a second language. Studies have shown that a learner who knows how to read and write in one language will develop reading and writing skills in a new language faster. Education systems should perform both possibilities where the official language as a subject as well as education in one’s home language are both given equal importance. That’s a question of respect for ethnic minority language and culture. But they must also ensure that children from disadvantaged minority backgrounds learn the official language to find a good place in society and get decent jobs. Furthermore, parents who do not speak the language their children are being taught in school may be less able to engage with teachers, education authorities and to help with their children’s educational needs. And then there is the question of learning English. It is definitely harder to learn a third language when you are not fully familiar with your mother tongue and the official language of your country. It’s proven, that learners automatically transfer knowledge acquired in one language to another language as soon as they have learned sufficient vocabulary in the new language. To put it plainly- be good in Nepali, then it’s easier to learn English.

To sum up, we would like to underline the message that it is absolutely important to speak first of all your mother tongue and then Nepali in an above average level. It will help you to be able to communicate with everyone in your country and to deal with government operations or/and even with the local shops around the corner. It is an investment for your cultural heritage than just focusing on learning English, which is undoubtedly a big advantage.

Engineers are showing their talent and ability in foreign land at the same time government in Nepal is searching several engineers from America, Europe and from developing countries for most of the promising projects in Nepal. Nevertheless even though there is several possibility for the engineers in Nepal from the government as well as in private sectors. Altogether 51 engineering colleges are giving back 8000 graduates per year. And most of the engineers are either under employed or searching jobs in Golf countries. Rather than promoting quantity on outcome of engineers yearly administrative level has to be serious on quality too there would be enough chances for the Nepali engineers to lead projects in Nepal.
