In our work at CDN we always meet impressive people. One of them we would like to mention in special. Miss. Binita Shrestha, Founder of Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) has been involved in the “Information, Communication and Technology Skills and Education” program. She was the second award winner at Presentation Compaction conducted by Nepal Telecommunication Authority on International Girls in ICT day 2015 and also been the title winner of “Empower 2015” as “Young Aspiring Women Leaders”. This article tells about her personal experience on her way to a successful female personality in IT. She always fights against the pre-existing prejudices that IT subjects are just male dominated. Mostly, women tend to choose their career in women-centric branches like nursing, caretaker, housewife or beautician rather than computer/IT based jobs. Our point of view is that your own abilities and interests make your career brighter and successful than just gender-based decisions.

Women in IT

IT (Information Technology) is a growth in the world and is ranked with high income and is considered a high performing field as well. The trend of female percentage of working in technology is few in comparison with other sectors. It can be widely seen that, since men are dominant in IT, there are more product and services that fit men’s requirements. Unfortunately, women have to rely mostly on men to design, process and produces goods that are especially required for women. For example, machinery in modern kitchen can surly be fixed by women because till now women spent most of their time in the kitchen. But even if a woman decides to work in the IT sector, it can be challenging.

Is passion for IT enough to take this challenge?

As we mentioned before, STEM CEO Binita Shrestha’s told us about her personal experience on how she focused her passion for IT and faced the challenge in her own words.

“Few years ago when I joined Computer Science, I was the only girl among 150 students! Imagine how it would feel? It was scary and made me doubt my passion. My uncountable requests to my other female friends to join Computer Science were ignored as just like many others. They thought that the computer field is male dominated. The irony is that today, we live in a world where we have male nurses and nannies, and we are finding the field of computers too manly.”

 What can we learn from Binita?

According to Binita Shrestha most of the girls are facing similar kinds of problems as she had in her academic life and use to give up without completing their mission. But Binita comes up with this challenging situation positively. Her desire and ability to be an IT professional couldn’t be restricted. To enhance the girls’ participation in IT is today’s need. To access women participation in technology requires good mentors, workshops and various awareness programs, which influences women to come out from the notion of men’s supremacy in IT.

So in all, we should help women to enhance their ability and use their natural uniqueness in the technical field. For these purposes, some of the academic, non-academic and private education companies provide the education and training to close the gender gap. They offer different STEM workshops and programs and conferences in the IT sector where interested girls can join. STEM is the creative field. So realizing the fact that the girls should be given STEM knowledge from very early age, her team came up with an idea of STEM FOR KIDS project (targets age group 10-16 years)  happening every weekend which encourages the young minds towards logic building, problem solving, developing computational thinking and creativity required in the STEM career. We wanted to say, that the role of women in IT is important to improve the female lives and eliminate the existing gender gap in the technology field. IT is a good opportunity for Nepali girls to empowering their lives economically, technically and socially.

आईटिमा महिला

आजको युगमा आइटी (सूचना प्रबिधि) विश्वकै उच्च आय श्रोत भएको र एकदमै बढ्दो क्रममा रहेको पेशा क्षेत्र मानिन्छ | तर महिलाहरुको आइटीक्षेत्रमा सहभागिता भने अन्य पेशा क्षेत्रहरुको दाजोमा कम रहेको पाइन्छ | यो पेशा क्षेत्रमा पुरुषहरुको हावी धेरै भएको हुनाले उनीहरुको आवश्यता अनुसारको नै सेवा, सुविधाहरु डिजाइन गरेको पाइन्छ |  दुर्भाग्यवस महिलाहरुको लागि अति आवश्यक पर्ने चिजहरु पनि पुरुषहरुको छनोटको आधारमा उपयोग गर्नु परेको छ | उदाहरणको लागि नयाँ भान्छाको समस्याहरु समाधान गर्नु पर्यो भने पुरुषले भन्दा महिलाहरुलेनै सजिलै समाधान गर्न सक्छन किनभने अहिले सम्म पुरुषले भन्दा बढी महिलाहरुले भान्सामा समय विताएका पाइन्छ| तर पनि महिलाहरुकोलागि आईटि क्षेत्रमा काम गर्ने निर्णय लिनु  चुनौतीपूर्ण छ |

के आईटि क्षेत्रमा काम गर्ने चाहनाहरुले मात्र यो चुनौतीको सामना गर्न सकिन्छ त?

स्टिमकी सि.ई.व, बिनिता श्रेष्ठले आफ्नो चाहनाको विषय, आइटी पढ्दा खेरि सामना गर्नु परेको चुनौतीहरु, उहाँको आफ्नै शब्दमा |

“केहि वर्ष अगाडि, म कम्प्यूटर साइन्स कक्षामा भर्ना हुदा १५० जना विद्यार्थीहरुमा म मात्र एक छात्रा थिए | के तपाईले कल्पना गर्न सक्नुहुन्छ, मैले त्यो बेला कस्तो महसुस गरेको थिए होला भनेर ? आइटी पढ्ने  मेरो सपना पुरा गर्न सक्ने छैन, यो विषय मेरो लागि नभई पुरुषको लागि मात्र रहेछ भन्ने जस्तो आशंका पनि लाग्थ्यो | मैले मेरा धेरै साथीहरुलाई संगै पढ्न प्रोत्साहन पनि गरे तर उनीहरुले  मानेन् किनभने अरुमा जस्तै उनीहरुमा पनि आइटी विषय केटा को लागि मात्र हो भन्ने पुरानै धारणा थियो | एक्काईसौं शताब्दिको अवसर भनेको जसले जे काम गरे पनि हुन्छ, पुरुषहरु पनि नर्स र न्यानिज बन्न सक्छन भने कम्प्यूटर क्षेत्र केटाको लागि मात्र हो भन्ने गलत सोचमा हामी रुमलिएका छौ |”

बिनिताबाट हामीले के सिक्ने ?

बिनिताको अनुसार “प्राय महिलाहरुले उनीले शैक्षिक जीवनमा भोगेको जस्तै समस्याहरु सामना गर्नु परिरहेको छ, र आफ्नो सपना त्याग्नु परेको छ |” तर बिनिता भने सम्पूर्ण समस्याहरुको सामना गरेर, सपनालाई अगाडि लगाई, सफलताको शिखर चुमेकी छन् |  उनको आइटि पेशेवर बन्ने चाहना र क्षमतालाई कुनैपनि कुराले प्रतिबन्धित गर्न सकेन | आईटि क्षेत्रमा महिलाहरुको सहभागिता बढाउन प्रोत्साहन गराउनु आजको आवश्यकता हो | आइटी क्षेत्रमा महिलाहरुले आफ्नो क्षमताको प्रयोग गर्न सक्दछन् |  त्यसैले प्रविधि क्षेत्रमा उनीहरुको प्राकृतिक ज्ञानलाई प्रयोग गर्ने मौका दिनुपर्दछ | पुरुषहरुको बाहुल्यता रहेको आईटि क्षेत्रमा महिलाहरुलाई प्रभावकारी ढंगबाट अग्रसर गराउनको लागि राम्रो आइटी परामर्शदाता, आइटी सम्बन्धि विभिन्न जनचेतना कार्यक्रम, कार्यशाला, गोष्ठी तथा सम्मेलनहरुमा सहभागिता बडाउनु पर्दछ |

आइटि क्षेत्रमा महिलाहरुको सहभागिता बढाउनको लागि उनीहरुमा भएको क्षमता र प्राकृतिक ज्ञानको प्रयोग गर्नको लागि हामी सबैको  सहयोग आवश्यकता छ | आईटि क्षेत्रमा हुने लैङ्गिक विभिदतालाई समाधान गर्नको लागि शैक्षिक, गैर-शैक्षिक, निजी शैक्षिक संस्थाहरुले तालिमहरु पनि दिदै आएका छन् | यिनीहरुले आईटि सम्बन्धि फरक-फरक कार्यशाला तथा गोष्ठीहरु राख्दै पनि आएका छन् | जहाँ इच्छुक महिलाहरु सहभागी हुन सक्छन् | महिलाहरुको आईटि क्षेत्रमा संग्लग्नताले प्रविधिको क्षेत्रमा लैङ्गिक असमानता हटाउन, महिलाको जीवनस्थर उठाउन महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेलेको हुन्छ | नेपाली महिलाहरुको सामाजिक, आर्थिक र प्राविधिक रुपमा सशक्तीकरणको लागि आईटि एउटा अवसर हो |

Why would some of the most successful people agree that interest matters in one’s life to have a successful career? They do so because they are the ones who have passionately followed their interests and even achieved success. Their success stories prove that when skills meet passion and interest, it only results in achievements. But, why does interest really matter? Certainly, this is the question that might arise in everybody’s mind.

Interest as a driving factor for motivation and happiness

Interests are an important part of each individual person character and encourage people to do certain activities. Interests have a great impact on the types of activities that people find attractive, fulfilling and enjoyable. According to Hidi (1990), being interested in a topic is a mental resource that enhances learning, which then leads to better performance and achievement. Interest is one of the important parts while choosing a career. When we love what we are doing, we will always put our best performance forward and strive to learn more. Consequently, that will enhance our self-confidence as well. When we pick up the field or area we like and enjoy, we would not crib to study or work in that field rather work harder and perform our best.

Published studies about interests

A research (Interest, Learning, and the Psychological Processes That Mediate Their Relationship 2002), showed that interest was related to an individual’s response, persistence and learning. It stated that interest includes affective and cognitive components which are part of individuals’ engagement in activities. According to a meta-analysis of the number of researchers, (Interest as a predictor of academic achievement, 1992), conducted in 18 different countries to examine the relationship between interest and performance, it was found that interest was highly correlated with academic achievements. Therefore, these researchers demonstrate that the role of interest is very important for an individual’s education as well as career.

Even if you don’t have a clear vision of your career or education pathway, you have interests in certain things which you are aware of or not. It’s important to follow your passion and to know your less obvious interests. The importance of knowing your interests is that your interests are the source of your motivation and that separate you from others. "इच्छामा आधारित रहेर पेशा क्षेत्र रोज्नुहोस्,  तपाइले जीवनभर काम गरेको महशुस गर्नु हुने छैन |" (कन्फुसियस)

प्राय किन सफल व्यक्तिहरु, इच्छामा आधारित काम रोज्नुपर्दछ भन्ने पक्षमा सहमत हुन्छन् ?  किनभने, सफल व्यक्तिहरुले व्यक्तिगत इच्छालाईनै पछ्याएर सफलता हासिल गरेका हुन्छन् |  व्यक्तिगत क्षमताहरु, व्यक्तिगत चाहना र इच्छा संग मेल खाएमा सफलता मिल्दछ भन्ने कुरा सफल व्यक्तिहरुको जीवनी बाट नै प्रमाणित हुन्छ | तर पनि व्यक्तिगत इच्छाहरु सफल करियर निर्माणमा कसरि सम्बन्धित हुन्छन् ?  अवश्य पनि यो प्रश्न सबैको मनमा उब्जन सक्छ |

सन् २००२ को ‘चाहना, सिकाई र मनोवैज्ञानिक प्रकृया र तिनीहरु बिचको सम्बन्ध’ विषयको अनुसन्धानले व्यक्तिको प्रतिक्रिया, दृढता र सिकाई इच्छासंग सम्बन्धित् रहेको देखाएको थियो | अनुसन्धानले बताए अनुसार व्यक्तिको इच्छामा प्रभावकारी र भावनात्मक तत्वहरु हुन्छन् जसले गर्दा व्यक्तिलाई कुनैपनि क्रियाकलापमा सहभागी हुन तल्लिन बनाउछ | इच्छा र प्रस्तुति बिचको सम्बन्ध पत्ता लगाउनको लागि एक मेटा-विश्लेषणले १८ फरक देशहरुमा अनुसन्धान गरेको थियो जसअनुसार इच्छा र शैक्षिक उपलब्धि एक आपसमा सम्बन्धित् रहेको पाइयो | त्यसकारण, उक्त अनुसन्धानहरुको आधारमा व्यक्तिको शिक्षाको साथ साथै व्यावसायिक जीवनमा इच्छाले महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेलेको हुन्छ |

Do you know what you want to do in your future? No, you do not! Then you should not get worried now because you are not the only one who does not have a clue about their study, profession or any other life important decision. This, however, becomes a problem after finishing the 10^th class because for the first time you solely have to choose subjects which kind of manifest your future work life. Management, Medicine, IT or any other subject of these thousands of being offered – how should you choose one of them if you do not even know what you want to do in your future?

CDN has the answer, presenting you four general tips to choose any subject in the higher level:

1. SELF-EVALUATION:

What do you generally like to do? What gives you struggles when you do it - and what gives you joy? What types of features make you special? What are your dreams?

Questions such as these – are usually overlooked and often are too complex to answer. But even thinking about what you would say if someone asked you these questions brings you not only closer to answering “what you want to do in your future”, it will also help you to know yourself better. Additionally, this will simplify your self-evaluation process which is clearly a tough thing to do. Knowing the answer to these questions will effectively narrow your huge choice of subjects down that you might take in the higher education.

2. EVALUATION BY A THIRD PERSON:

Our second tip is connected to our previous one and it comes into action as a follow-up. If you are unable to evaluate yourself (it is harder than one thinks), you can just let yourself be evaluated by a third person, which can easily be done by your family and friends. The people who know you best might be able to reveal hidden skills and features which you were not aware of. For instance, they remember you being a good organizer of meetings and parties or being a child which always asked about different vehicles and whole-heartedly dismantled their toy cars!

3. CONSIDERATION OF GRADES:

A glance oatyour latest report card will tell you a lot of things (not everything). Firstly, it will show if you fulfill the requirements set by the college/universities itself (e.g. entrance examination). Secondly, your grades show the subjects you have a talent for and most importantly for those you don’t. Knowing what you cannot do helps you choose the subject you can do because, for instance, if your physics grade is your worst one and this has been the case for your whole school life, then you are not made for any physics or mathematics related subject like IT or Engineering. This, of course, is a really obvious example what will unlikely be the case in reality but looking at your report card will give you some flashbacks about the time and feeling you had while being in the class studying this specific subject, thus helping you to remember which once you liked and which you did not.

4. GO AND TAKE THE INITIATIVE:

The final tip, we have for you, is only sensible when you, hopefully due to our previously presented tips, have already chosen a smaller range of potential subjects. The fourth tip advises you to go to the college/university which offers you your preferred subjects and (if possible) attending some classes in the subject you might study in the future. This will clearly give you a bright impression of, firstly, how it is to study this specific subject and, secondly, how the daily life on the college/university is. You can also exploit this opportunity and ask everyone out about the things you always wanted to know and could not find an answer elsewhere. Talking to teachers, students and soon to be graduates might require confidence but the true and realistic insight you will get from this is worth it. If in the end you decide for this college/university, you already have some friends who you can ask about the things you will not understand in your first semester.

There are only advantages, so go for it and make the plunge!

तपाईले भविष्यमा के गर्न चाहनुहुन्छ ? के तपाईलाई यो प्रश्नको उत्तर थाहा छ वा छैन ? आफ्नो व्यवसायिक जीवनमा के गर्ने, के पढ्ने, र अन्य महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय लिन कठिन पर्छ ? यदि पर्छ भने तपाई मात्र एक्लो व्यक्तित्व भने होइन | तर पनि १० कक्षा उतिर्ण गरेका विद्यार्थीहरुको लागि भने अब के गर्ने बन्ने विषयमा बढी अन्योलता हुन सक्दछ | किनभने यो समय भनेको निश्चित करियर क्षेत्र छनोटको लागि सम्बन्धित विषय छनोट गर्ने पहिलो खुड्किलो हो | यदि तपाईलाई भविष्यमा के गर्ने भन्ने कुरा थाहा छैन भने उपलब्ध विषयहरु, व्यवस्थापन, स्वास्थ्य, संचार तथा प्रविधि र अन्य हजारौं विषयहरु मध्ये एउटा विषय कसरि छनोट गर्नुहुन्छ?

उच्च तहमा शैक्षिक विषय छनोट गर्नको लागि करियर दिशा नेपालसंग चारवटा सामान्य सुझावहरु छन् :

१. आत्म मूल्यांकन:

सामान्यतया तपाईलाई के गर्न मन लाग्छ ? तपाईले कुन काम गर्दा धेरै मेहेनत लगाउनुहुन्छ ? कुन काम गर्दा तपाईलाई रमाइलो लाग्दछ ? तपाईले के बन्ने सपना देख्नुहुन्छ ?  सामान्यतया, यी प्रश्नहरु बेवास्ता गरिएका र उत्तर दिन कठिन मानिएको पाइन्छ | तर पनि यदि कसैले तपाईलाई भविष्यमा के गर्न चाहनुहुन्छ भनि प्रश्न गरेको खण्डमा के उत्तर दिने भनि सोच्दा पनि स्वयंलाई नजिकबाट चिन्ने मौका पाउनुहुन्छ | साथसाथै यी प्रश्नहरुले आत्ममूल्यांकन प्रक्रियालाई पनि सरल बनाउन सहयोग गर्दछ | यी प्रश्नहरुको उत्तर थाहा पाउनु भयो भने उच्च तहमा कुन विषय पढ्दा उपयुक्त हुन्छ भन्ने कुरा थाहा पाउनुहुन्छ |

There are many individual reasons to study or work abroad. 5. Decide for ONE country and inform yourself on the process. Going abroad is nothing which is done within 1 – 2 months (and everybody, who tells you otherwise is rather a human trafficker than a counselor)
6. Learn the language: You will live 24-hours in this country and need the language every moment you are there: for your courses, for shopping, if you are sick or meet someone nice while going out. None English speaking countries are more work to prepare but therefore you will also face less international competition and therefore more often than not cheaper possibilities than in English speaking countries.
7. Read articles about that country: Understanding what is happening in the country you want to go to does not only help your general knowledge but also helps you to estimate how your chances of work will be, improve your chances and help you to avoid awkward situations.
8. Check your finances: Going abroad is a costly thing and most countries will not allow you to work more than part time. Dependent on your subject and the country it will cost you between 20 Lakh and 1 Crore.
9. Check out your job market opportunities: Does Nepal or the country you plan to study in really need more people of your profession? And if you will find occupation, will it be worth the high cost of your education? If no: consider to just travel the country ... might be a cheaper alternative after all.
10. Make a list of 3 alternatives you can do in Nepal: Many young people spend years on their dream of going abroad and lose totally the vision, that there would be many other ways to work towards your goal in Nepal.

CDN Counselor Hari Krishna Dahal with the help of Namaraj K C, conducted the one-day Basic Career Counseling Helper workshop at VHS Bhaktapur. The aim of this workshop was to make participants capable of distinguishing and categorizing the actual needs of the clients and recommending them suitable CDN services accordingly.

The four hours interactive workshop mainly discussed on strategies for handling clients, approaches in dealing with their problems, understanding and categorizing their information, and recommending neediest services.

At the end of this workshop, participants discussed and finalized about the questions that have been already asked by the clients in the past and possible questions that clients may ask in the future. Finally, the client's questions were categorized according to different CDN services to hit the bull's eye easily.

We believe that parents play a big role of the motivator to children and can do the miracle to improve their children’s education and career by doing good communication to each other. In this article, we are trying to tell some of the reasons that may lead your children to get bad marks in their results.

Some mindset assumptions to have bad results in exams

Your children’s results in exams are the blueprint of student’s academic performance in the school’s examination. They are used to determine student’s progress. Bad results are showing student’s poor achievements like for example when they get an F grade or being failed in school’s academic works. Our society holds the concept that bad results are the indicator to measure children’s qualities. Most of the parents think achieving good marks in the standard test is one approach to be successful professionally and academically. If children get bad marks then parents are worrying about their professional and academic success. After looking bad results of children, the parent often starts to blame their children on key reasons for not doing homework properly, lack of diligence or poor preparation. First and foremost your children’s attitude, values, behavioral skills are influenced by study environment. Every individual has different personality and interest by birth. Some students couldn’t recognize their interest and choose popular subjects while some are forced to choose specific subjects. In that reasons, they couldn’t be concentrated well enough. Some children are overconfident about their subjects and negligence to read properly. Other major problem is the procrastination means most of the children have habits to say tomorrow, while tomorrow never comes. Most of the children are reading books for long periods to let their parents know that they are well studying, but they are only studying without much attesting in the topic of the books. So without giving proper concentration on the respective subject that couldn’t be learning.  Another leading cause to get poor marks in exams is that most children have weak organizational and understanding skills to answer the questions or suffer from exam anxiety. Sometimes, children have a health problem which distracts them to study well.  Similarly, lack of good guidance, assistance, and drug abused are the issues to leads to poor academic performance. Besides all, education, teaching, and family environments have a big influence in bad results.

Some methods that parents can follow to minimize the 'problems'

Parents tend punish their children physically and emotionally just by looking at their results without finding out background reasons of failing. Sometimes, to escape from punishment, children try to hide the poor results from them. It is understandable as they can feel certain guilt and are scared to show the results to their parents. Simply becuase the kid didnt not get a good result, disciplining them could have an adverse effect. Wrong way of guidance might not improve the grades, it may just worsen the problem.

What we suggest

If your children get poor result; start the conversation with them in a positive and motivational manner and listen to them. Rather than taunting and using discouraging words, find out the hidden reasons collaboratively. It’s better to motivate them, keep faith on them, aware them their knowledge, skill, and strengths and focus on the subjects they are good at. Keep an eye on your children’s behavior. Find out the reasons for failing the exam. If you couldn’t find out your children’s failing reasons then consult with an academic counselor or the class teacher. In conclusion, parents are the trusted person for children so provide them appropriate environments. Your children have capacities from birth so boost them. Everything is possible if you exercise it in the right way.

Keep an eye on your children’s behavior. Find out the reasons for low grades. If you can't find out your children’s failing reasons, then consult with an academic counselor or the class teacher.

Career Disha Nepal conducted career counseling orientation for the SEE (Secondary Education Examination) students from different schools at Edulift, Ramhiti-Phulwari, Kathmandu.

CDN’s senior career counselor, Hari Krishna Dahal, and Namaraj KC ran the one-day interactive orientation session which included several career related activities; group discussion, career focused games, Ice Breakers, and The Mirror Game in order to enlighten the students to choose the deliberate and fitting career. According to the students’ feedback, the orientation session was interactive, refreshing, friendly and above all reflective.

Edulift http://www.eduliftacademy.org/ is a non-profit educational initiative dedicated to transforming and empowering the lives of young people and children from marginalized Himalayan and Tibetan ethnic groups. Edulift is giving Tibetan students to experiential-based education and life-skills session to prepare young people to live a purposeful life.

In our counseling workshops, we gathered that lots of good educated young Nepalese girls and boys are unemployed and are looking for what to do next in their career. Am I really made for the job?

Internships give you the chance to see if the 'spotted job' matches your individual personality. Profit or non-profit companies offer you this temporary employment for you to find out if you are also suitable for the culture of their organization. Another advantage for your future career is that internships are encouraged by colleges for credit completion and are providing references in your Curriculum Vitae. You can apply your fresh knowledge from school and are mentored by your employer.

But they definitely demand big involvement and effort.

How to get an internship?

The first step in answering the question “How do I find an internship?” is asking “What do I want to do?” Start looking at industries that you’re interested in and get a feel for what they’re looking for. Make a list of the companies or fields you might want to work in, and then start listing potential internships in each one. You should also look at which cities you might want to try out or that you’ve always wanted to visit. Very important is also to look a recommendation. Then you start to make your documents like cover letter und CV ready. Make them special and in connection to what you would like to do for the company. Contact and networking with friends and family can help you to find the right place and get advice and tips. Limitation of the Internship

An internship is an unpaid or less paid position. In our society, there is often accusation ‘Why work for free after studying so hard?’ People are true in some sense, but HOW can you just focus on the economical aspect when you would like to find job satisfaction and fulfillment both in your future job life? Before being able to get paid for work, sometimes employees need you to gain experience in a particular field. Through an internship, you can get experience to explore your ideas and develop confidence in your abilities. And you find out in time if you should look for another job somewhere else.

At first, it may appear as if there are only two possibilities. On the one hand, there are typical academic careers and on the other hand, there is a huge job market for non-academic jobs. People on the job market often find themselves considering a wide range of different job options. And it may turn out to be more appealing than at first. The main point is to know what you want. Do you want money? Is that what a good job means to you? Or do you want prestige? Or would you settle for little pay as long as you have the passion for what you do? Our best advice to job seekers looking outside academia is to believe that you have something valuable to offer. The one common thread that we all touched on was the importance of seeing oneself as an asset to others. Unfortunately, we often sense that seeking non-academic employment is equated with failure.  Evidently, job seekers look for non-academic jobs because they can’t find other work - this sort of attitude easily undermines one’s performance in the job interview. After all, who would want to hire a failure? Clearly, this problem requires more than a dose of positive self-esteem or a newfound belief in the dignity of all work.

Non-academic skills

More and more evidence reflects the need to allow students to develop as people and not just as students. It’s time to think beyond the emphasis on academics and give importance to teaching/learning other stuff for success and independent living. We have come to recognize this “stuff” as non-academic skills. It’s important for example to know how to navigate through technology to find a quick fix for something that may be needed. These so called 21st Century Skills are making you independent. Also working on your grit is needed. When the going gets tough, the tough get going is a difficult lesson. Often, it leaves us adults wanting to hide under the blankets! Having the courage and determination to resolve an obstacle or finish something that was once started is a key indication of one’s grit. You should allow yourself also to create Growth in your Mindset. When you practice anything over and over again, positive results are bound to come around. Taking up a Hobby with enough persistent effort can grow a talent from the ground up, and this is an invaluable life skill that can be applied to just about every challenge you may face. And having good Soft Skills like good manners and punctuality are always helpful in jobs.

So all in all, everybody is thinking hard about what would be a satisfactory job or career, and then have to be prepared to work hard to find employment that meets their own personal goals. विविध घटना क्रमलाई मध्यनजर गर्दा विद्यार्थीलाई विद्यार्थीको रुपमा मात्र विकास नगरेर पूर्ण मानिसको रुपमा विकास गर्नु आवश्यक हुन्छ |  यो समय भनेको शैक्षिक कुराहरु पढाई/सिकाइलाई मात्र सिमित  नगरेर सफल व्यक्तिगत जीवन जिउनको लागि आवश्यक पर्ने अन्य शिपहरुलाई महत्व दिनुपर्ने कुराको बारेमा सोच्नुपर्ने वेला आएको छ | हामीले यस्ता सिपहरु गैर-शैक्षिक शिपहरुमा पाएका छौ | उदाहरणको लागि हामीले दैनिकी रुपमा प्रयोग गरिने प्रविधिहरुमा आउने समस्याहरुको समाधान कसरि गर्ने भनि थाहा पाउन आवश्यक छ |  यसर्थमा २१औ शताब्दीको अर्थ तपाईलाई शिपहरु सिकाइ परनिर्भर बनाउनु हो | साथै आफुमा भएको क्षमतामा काम गर्नु पनि आवश्यक छ | जव अबस्था जटिल हुन्छ क्षमतावानहरुले मात्र त्यो जटिलताको सामना गर्न सक्छ | अर्थात जो क्षमतावान हुन्छ उसले मात्र अवसरहरु हासिल गर्दछ यो एउटा कठिन पाठ हो | यसले गर्दा प्राय युवाहरु असफल हुने डरले आफुमा भएका क्षमताहरुपनि लुकाउने गरेको पाइन्छ | आफुले सुरु गरेको कुराको समापन गर्न साहष र निरन्तर लगाव राख्नु भनेको एक व्यक्तिले आफ्नो क्षमतामा काम गरेको छ भन्ने प्रमुख आधार हो | तपाई जुनकुनै कुरामा सफल हुनको लागि निरन्तर अभ्यासरत हुनुभयो भने सकारात्मक परिणामनै आउनेछ जुन कुरा तपाईले आफ्नो मानसिकतामा विकास गर्नु पर्दछ | आफुमा भएको इच्छालाई अघि लगाई लगातार मेहनत गर्नुहोस् जसले गर्दा तपाईलाई सो विषयमा पोख्त बनाउँछ | र यो नै तपाईको जीवनमा आई पर्ने समस्याहरु संग सामना गर्न हिम्मत दिने जीवनको अमुल्य शिप हो | असल बानि व्यवहार, समयनिष्ठ्ता जस्ता कुशलताहरु जुनसुकै पेशामा आवद्ध हुनको लागि उपयोगी हुन्छ |

तसर्थ, सबैले सन्तोषजनक पेशाको बारेमा सोच्नुपर्ने हुन्छ र व्यक्तिगत लक्ष्यअनुसारको पेशा खोज्नु पर्दछ | जुनकुनै पेशा सहि र गलत भन्ने कुरा हुदैन | आफ्नो क्षमता र इच्छा अनुसारको पेशा रोज्दा श्रम बजारको सबै पेशाहरु चुनिने अवसर पाउनु सृजनात्मक रुपमा प्रस्तुत हुन सक्दछन् | यदि तपाईलाई आफ्नो पेशागत बाटो पत्ता लगाउन सहयोगको आवश्यकता छ भने ‘करियर दिशा नेपाल’ ले करियर सम्बन्धि विभिन्न सेवाहरु प्रदान गर्दै आएको छ |
