[:en]Farewell to Chatpat Lover from CDN[:]

[:en]

In the beginning of April, 2016 freelance website developer, Patrick volunteered as a webpage developer at CDN for a month. Within those 4 weeks, he developed a full-fledged student assessment online along with making the database more intuitive. In addition, he assessed previously developed sectors such as database, student assessment and provided CDN with valuable advice and IMG_2013[1]suggestions on how to optimize the development process.

More than thirty countries visited, 34 years old German guy was fond of Nepali food, Dhal Bhat, MO: MO, Chat-pat and that the one thing he is going to miss the most about Nepal is its liveliness.  He was work concentrated and never left his Vietnamese cap that looked somewhat like a combat hat. He knew a couple of words in Nepali, but the ones he knew somewhat provided an essence of being a Nepali.  ‘KE GARNE’ was something that will always remind us of Patrick, the phrase that roughly translates to ‘WHAT TO DO’ well describes what every Nepali is going through.  We will miss his introduction of Chat-pat to the CDN team and his contribution will always be online (so it will never be forgotten). His contribution till date has been of highest impact to the team: he did so much in such small frame of time.

We definitely will miss the tall guy!IMG_20181-300x225

CDN Taking over the bat-cave
After the hectic first 2 months, that kept the team of Career Disha Nepal incredibly busy, yesterday was a breath of fresh air. A long tiring walk, with water gushing from don’t know where; swaying trees’ shade cooling the hot, bright sun was something we all needed. And midst all that we all unanimously felt that Patrick was the only one who didn’t miss his laptop. Patrick

Hari keeping the photographer busy
Hari’s witty jokes about something he had heard 7 years ago from a person he didn’t know brought us a conclusion that ‘सुन्दरी’ (Sundari) was the word-of-the-day. Mr CEO, felt right at home, walking faster than all and his melodious songs felt more of a howl than a song. Sagar, the flex carrier, was doing his job little too well, we supposed as it was missing in most of the action.           The MVP (Most-valuable-player), undoubtedly Inge gave us all a task that was virtually impossible, singing the Nepali national anthem in GERMAN! But with the skill of Sagar and the German fluency of Patrick, we did it. Even Prajan, the youngest member of CDN, (who knows nothing of the vicious nature of the above-mentioned language) sang the national anthem.

Prajan's proud stride after singing the national anthem
We played games, took over 1,000 photos (NATURALLY) and took our descend. The lunch was unmistakably the best part of the trek: Spanish cheese, Inge’s fruit cake and home-made brown bread, Suresh’s recommended yogurt and ever refreshing Kabucha.

Inge's expression after giving the IMPOSSIBLE task
What could go wrong? Hari’s bike made a lot of noise, Srijana lost her shawl and Sagar wore a red-tight t-shirt. In short, nothing. It was an amazing day out. Now back to work as the online version of the student assessment is on its way!

[:en]CDN representation on AIESEC Youth Forum Conference[:]

[:en]

From March 25th to 27th 2016 there was a three- day conference hosted by AIESEC Nepal, an international youth leadership organization, held at Hotel Taishan, Thamel Kathmandu, Nepal.

On the second day (public involvement), Career Disha Nepal Participated the YouthSpeak Forum event. Jerry Yeh, national vice president of AIESEC Nepal and also responsible for marketing and outgoing exchange, was in charge of the program.  Two speakers, Abhishek Maskey and Barsha Chitrakar Shah, gave presentations on the import12417511_10205951489259185_5938074364742044113_nance of quality education and sustainable development respectively.

Maskey explained about three pillars, which support quality education:  society, teachers and students. One of the memorable things he said was “...the subject (for +2 studies) will be decided which SLC division you got, not by your interest...” After the presentation, one delegate raised the question about how can we change stereotypical, old fashioned teaching methods and adopt a modern and practical education system. Similiarly, Maskey was also in search of the answer to the raised question! One of the possibilities pointed out was to replace the old traditional teachers with younger ones. Teachers are the key part of students' future. Since the teaching field is subject to rapid changes, teachers need to be constantly updating their professional knowledge and skills, as unskilled teachers may pass poor knowledge to the students. In the 21st century, world has become more of a global village. Since the new generation are in the competitive world market, students from rural village of Nepal and urban New York ideally should have similar pattern of education. IMG_20160326_115843

It was a great opportunity being a Career Disha Nepal representative. These types of educational programs are always fruitful to CDN to know the present scenario and the perception of students, parents, teachers and society. This hopefully will help us to enhance quality of education.

Benefits of On-line Assessment

'The exploration of internal talent is the chief aim of education'.

Every individual is different from one to the next. The thought process, ability, personality are distinctive to every individual. Every person is somewhat born and brought up with some unique abilities. In place of giving priorities to the abilities that are innate in them, Nepali youth are almost forced to be ‘educated’ in a talent supressing environment. It is most unfortunate that students give way for their parents’, societies’ wants and needs while rejecting their own interests and passion. One of the reasons for this position is the limited financial support and increasing personal/family issues. Above that, majority of cases are those where the students are unaware of their abilities, inadequacies as well as their passion thus inevitably are left stranded.

Picture1Picture2

We aim to provide a direction for all those youth who are uncertain about their inner passion, have limited knowledge about the educational fields as well as the career path they should choose so that it is advantageous for them in the near future. It is all possible with a research that has been computerized into an Online Test that helps the youth recognize his/her underlying capabilities. This Online Test analyses the simple yet sophisticated answers provided by the students to give various calculation that will finally display suitable career path for students and their vital educational requirements. This is possible as we have a data base of 350+ professions and more than 1000 educational institutes including various vocational institutes and numerous training centres. This technology was initially developed in various European nations run by their respective governing body. We have adapted that system from the scratch to suit our Nepali students, out-of-school and youth as a whole through the information provided by 3000+ experts across Nepal.

Picture3

After the completion of this assessment, students will receive an extensive list of educational possibilities across Nepal for each of the compatible profession that was analysed. Furthermore, the student will also receive a wide range of specialized information regarding the difficulties, opportunities and perimeter of the career sector he/she is well-suited with. This computer based assessment creates an environment which we hope will be a guided-direction for their otherwise drifting career paths.
